Flood Vulnerabilities

In support of Fathom’s high-resolution (30m) Global Flood Model (GFM), this project focuses on developing the robust global exposure and vulnerability component. By integrating empirical loss metrics with advanced downscaling techniques, the project delivers a comprehensive framework to accurately evaluate worldwide flood risks across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Project Highlights

  • Global Exposure Modeling: Developed high-resolution replacement value models, downscaled to 30 meters, to enable precise portfolio disaggregation and validation across diverse asset classes.
  • Targeted Vulnerability Functions: Created tailored vulnerability curves for pluvial, fluvial, and coastal flooding, addressing potential damages to buildings, contents, and business interruption on a regional basis.
  • Empirical Validation: Utilized extensive historical catastrophe event data to provide Average Annual Loss (AAL) and Probable Maximum Loss (PML) metrics, ensuring rigorous model calibration and benchmarking.
